My Favorite Sunscreen...For Every Occasion
Did you know May is National Skin Cancer Awareness Month? With beach/pool season around the corner it seems fitting to bring awareness to such a relevant topic. Sunscreen is a must all year 'round but when the weather dials up a notch it's essential to get your hands on effective protection.
One of my favorite skin care lines also happens to carry one of my favorite sunscreens: Skinceuticals
The brand has an assortment of SPF treats that don't feel greasy and minimize that trademark "whitening" effect commonly found in other sunscreens. Many cosmetics and skin creams incorporate SPF's these days, but Skinceuticals believes in separating the two elements because combined SPF products reduce the effectiveness of sun protection. With that philosophy they do their best to provide a sunscreen for every skin need.
The Skinceuticals sunscreen products include:
-Physical UV Defense SPF 30 (great for sensitive skin and post-treatment patients)
-Daily Sun Defense SPF 20 (great for use under daily makeup)
-Ultimate UV Defense SPF 30 (ideal for high-altitude climates and use on all skin types)
-Sport UV Defense SPF 45 (ideal for use during high-energy exercise)
-Sheer Physical UV Defense SPF 50 (silky formula with a mattifying texture)
-Physical Fusion UV Defense SPF 50 (contains a sheer filmless tint that adapts to all skin tones)
I love their Physical Fusion UV Defense SPF 50. The sheer, tinted formula is great to use under makeup.
In honor of National Skin Cancer Awareness Month Skinceuticals is teaming up with the Melanoma Research Alliance (MRA). The brand is also spreading the word on their Facebook page by asking users to post videos or written testimonials on how Melanoma has affected them or someone they know.
For the month of May, Skinceuticals will donate $20 to the MRA for every video uploaded and $2 for every post. The five most inspirational videos each day will also receive a free full-size Physical Fusion UV Defense.

Recreate Rashida Jones' GLAAD Media Awards Makeup Look
Wanna recreate Rashida Jones' glamorous look from the 2011 GLAAD Media Awards? Check out my video blog to find out how to recreate the look at home. The Parks and Recreation star's makeup artist Jo Strettell also dished on what she used to achieve the gorge look.
FACE: Strettell applied a sheer amount of COVERGIRL NatureLuxe Silk Foundation, just to even out her skin and highlighted her cheeks with COVERGIRL Simply Ageless Blush in plush peach.
EYES: On her eyes, she lined the inside and underneath of the waterline with COVERGIRL LiquilineBlast in Black Fire and then applied many coats of COVERGIRL LashBlast Volume Mascara for full, lush lashes.
LIPS: To create a statement look, the makeup artist took a gorgeous burgundy shade, COVERGIRL Queen Collection Lip Color in Tawny Port, applied in, then blotted off and then applied it again and repeated this a few times to create the stained lip effect.
Get Rashida Jones's look from the 2011 GLAAD Awards
The ever-adorable Rashida Jones and Amy Poehler hosted the 2011 GLAAD Media Awards recently. The awards show recognizes and honors media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the gay, bisexual and transgender community. Jones and Poehler make a statement by wearing black tuxedos by Hugo Boss. In contrast, Jones had a very feminine, chic makeup look for the night. I loved the entire look. The Parks and Recreation co-star kept the attention on her stunning tuxedo and beautiful face by pulling her hair back in a messy bun.
Celebrity makeup Jo Strettell created her gorgeous look using COVERGIRL products. The look was surprisingly low key and definitely easy to recreate at home.
Here's what Strettell did to create the look:
The results looked effortless and dewy.
