The evolution of style and fashion among pop stars has gone through many changes in the past few decades. Songstress style has gone from wild (Madonna), outrageous (Madonna) tacky (Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, Destiny's Child back in the day), overtly sexy (Britney & Janet), indecently sexy (Lil' Kim) and now a little bit of everything mixed with high fashion couture and drama.
In the 80's, outrageous styles and attitudes were as common as shoulder pads and acid washed jeans ( I shudder at the thought). Pop icons like Madge, Debbie Harry and the lovely Cyndi Lauper had the most innovative fashion sense that they used to truly define who they were and what their music was all about. Since then, few other songstresses have been able to create such a brilliantly executed on stage and off stage persona (seamlessly tying in, clothing, hair and makeup as wearable pieces of art) as Lady Gaga, although many have tried. She is a true icon in the making because every inch of her presence is dedicated to her art. She's living performance art and her sound and fashion is as unmistakable as her brilliant predecessors.
That's why I am more than excited about the pairing of Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper as the latest spokeswomen for MAC's Viva Glam Lipsticks. They represent fashion, glamour and true artistry in music.
Viva Glam is a wonderful line of high drama (even for MAC) lipsticks with proceeds benefitting the MAC AIDS Fund. The high wattage campaign always bring plenty of attention with its camera-ready celebrity cover girls like Fergie and Pamela Anderson. MAC has actually raised over $150 million for this cause since launching the celebrity infused line.
Incredibly, ALL proceeds made from Viva Glam Gaga Lipstick, a cool pink-blue shade with a high lustre finish and Viva Glam Cyndi Lipstick, a light coral-crimson lustre, go towards MAC AIDS Fund, which helps support the fight against HIV/AIDS.
What I love even more is how true to each lady, the shades are. Cyndi's punch of color shade screams of the wacky, fun-loving legend and somehow reminds me of girlie pajama-clad slumber parties sing-alongs of her hits. Gaga's off beat pink, packed with plenty of slick shine, represents the ever cool-as-a-cucumber-mystery wrapped in a riddle- Gaga-glamorous persona we all know and love. I do realize that was quite the run on sentence.
So go grab the shade the speaks to you and know that you're helping a more than worthy cause. If you've been snowed in and can't leave the house (e.g my friends and family in DC) fear not! Viva Glam comes with free shipping if you purchase online and enter the code VIVAGLAM.
Are you loving these tints? Have you bought Viva Glam Lipsticks in the past? Who is your favorite celebrity spokesperson and who do you think should carry the torch next? Let The Beauty Buff know!
